Stephen Amell Cast as Hobie Buchannon in Fox's 'Baywatch' Reboot

Stephen Amell has been cast as the first star in Matt Nix’s Baywatch reboot for Fox. He will portray Hobie Buchannon, a character from the original series, in a series regular role.

In the new series, Hobie Buchannon is set to become a Baywatch Captain, a position his father, Mitch, held in the original show. His life will be significantly altered by the arrival of his previously unknown daughter, Charlie, who intends to join Baywatch as a lifeguard alongside him.

Showrunner and executive producer Matt Nix stated that Amell embodies the necessary heart, intensity, and hero energy for the new Baywatch chapter.

The role of Hobie Buchannon was originally played by Brandon Call and later by Jeremy Jackson in the initial series.

Series Overview and Production Details

Fox has ordered a 12-episode series, which is scheduled to begin production this spring on Venice Beach and at the Fox Studio Lot. The reboot aims to feature adrenaline-fueled rescues, compelling relationships, and classic beachside heroics. It will update the original concept with a new cast and contemporary challenges.

The Legacy of the Original Baywatch

The original Baywatch series achieved widespread global popularity after a swift cancellation by NBC, reaching over a billion viewers weekly at its peak. It also played a pivotal role in helping launch the careers of several actors.

Creative Team and Distribution

Fox Entertainment and Fremantle are co-producing the new Baywatch. Matt Nix serves as showrunner and executive producer, with McG directing the premiere episode. Fox Entertainment Global will manage domestic distribution, while Fremantle handles international sales.
