Warriors Players Address 2026 Contract Futures
Several New Zealand Warriors players are addressing their contract futures ahead of the upcoming 2026 National Rugby League (NRL) season. Eight players are currently off-contract, including playmakers Chanel Harris-Tavita and Te Maire Martin, outside backs Rocco Berry and Taine Tuaupiki, and representative trio Kurt Capewell, Marata Niukore, and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck.
Rocco Berry's Recovery and Contract Hopes
Centre Rocco Berry, who is recovering from a shoulder injury sustained last year, expressed his desire to stay with the Warriors.
"I love the Warriors. I’ve been there since I came out of school, so I’m really happy where I am and just trying to get back on the field and play some footy for them."
Berry acknowledged the frustration of his injuries but feels more resilient. He is expected to miss part of the upcoming season.
Roger Tuivasa-Sheck's Open Options
Outside back Roger Tuivasa-Sheck is also off-contract at the end of 2026. The Warriors and Tuivasa-Sheck are reportedly open to extending his contract. However, he has previously indicated openness to a club switch or a move to the rugby union competition R360, which is now delayed until 2028. Tuivasa-Sheck remained reserved about his future, focusing on his pre-season training.
Kurt Capewell's Future and Ambitions
Thirteen-time Queensland Maroons representative Kurt Capewell is also playing for a new contract. Despite his contributions to the Warriors, the club may consider focusing on younger talent. Capewell, one of the few players with previous premiership-winning experience, is in the final months of his current deal.
"I want to win the comp. To be the first team to do that and be a part of that, it’s a chance you don’t get too often, so that’s what I want to do."
