Igor Tudor Appointed Tottenham Manager Amid Relegation Battle
Igor Tudor has been appointed as the new manager for Tottenham, marking his first managerial role in England. He takes on the challenge having been out of work since his sacking by Juventus in October 2025.
The appointment comes as Tottenham finds itself in a precarious position, currently five points above the bottom three following a 2-1 loss to Newcastle.
Tudor's primary responsibility is to address the club's relegation concerns.
Tudor's Managerial Philosophy
Tudor, a former defender who earned 55 caps for Croatia and made over 150 appearances for Juventus, is known for a managerial philosophy that emphasizes high physical exertion from players.
He has previously stated, "If you don't run, you don't play."
This core principle guided his approach during his single season at Marseille. There, the team consistently utilized a 3-5-2 formation. L'Equipe journalist Pierre-Etienne Minonzio observed that players not adhering to this running requirement, such as Dimitri Payet, were excluded from playing.
Track Record and Reputation
Under Tudor's leadership, Marseille finished third in Ligue 1 behind Paris St-Germain and Lens. Notably, they achieved a higher points total than in the previous campaign, when they had finished second.
L'Equipe journalist Pierre-Etienne Minonzio characterized Tudor as direct and focused on intense training to ensure players are physically fit.
