Bontempelli and Greene Reconcile Ahead of AAMI AFL Origin

Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli and Greater Western Sydney skipper Toby Greene, previously known for their rivalry, have reconciled while preparing to play as teammates for Victoria in AAMI AFL Origin. The reconciliation involved Bontempelli buying a coffee for Greene in Perth.

Background of Rivalry

Their past animosity stemmed from a 2019 elimination final incident where Greene pulled Bontempelli's hair, resulting in a $7500 fine for Greene.

Following this, Greene had publicly stated he would "never have a beer" with Bontempelli, who in turn described Greene as an "antagonist."

Path to Reconciliation

Greene reportedly reached out to Bontempelli after a preview clip from the docuseries "Final Siren: Inside the AFL" was released. Greene sought to clarify that his previous comments about not sharing a beer had been "twisted or misconstrued."

Bontempelli confirmed that this conversation helped to "clear the air" prior to their week together as teammates.

Bontempelli noted that the AAMI AFL Origin experience provides an opportunity for players to overcome existing rivalries and foster better relationships with competitors.
