Nottingham Forest Considers Vitor Pereira Amidst Managerial Search
Nottingham Forest is in discussions with Vitor Pereira regarding the head coach position, following the dismissal of Sean Dyche. This potential appointment would mark the club's fourth head coach this season.
Dyche was sacked after Nottingham Forest's goalless draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday. The club has previously dismissed Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou this season.
Forest has won three of its last 13 games across all competitions and is currently 17th in the league, three points above the relegation zone.
Vitor Pereira: A Potential Return
The Athletic reported Pereira as a leading contender, and talks are now underway with the former Wolves head coach. Pereira has been without a role since his departure from Wolves in November, after the team failed to secure a win in their first 10 Premier League matches of the season.
However, he is also recognized for helping Wolves avoid relegation after his appointment in December 2024 led to improved results. The 57-year-old also has a history with Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, having had a successful spell with Olympiacos (also owned by Marinakis) in the 2014-15 season, during which they won a Greek league and cup double.
Sean Dyche's Brief Tenure Concludes
Nottingham Forest confirmed Dyche's departure early Thursday morning. In a statement, the club expressed gratitude: "We would like to thank Sean and his staff for their efforts during their time at the club and we wish them the best of luck for the future."
After the Wolves game, Dyche indicated that a managerial change was at the owner's discretion. He was appointed in October to replace Postecoglou, who managed eight games without a win. Postecoglou had succeeded Nuno, who was dismissed on September 8, less than a month into the season. Nuno had guided Forest to a seventh-place finish in the 2024-25 campaign and European qualification.
Dyche oversaw a 2-0 victory against Porto in his first game and a 12th-place finish in the Europa League group stage. However, he won only six of his 18 Premier League games in charge, and the team was eliminated from the FA Cup by Championship club Wrexham. Forest's next match is away against Fenerbahce on February 19.
Forest's Immediate Focus: Avoiding Relegation
Internal discussions regarding various candidates are ongoing at Forest. With no immediate fixture until February 19, the club is not rushing to finalize an appointment.
The priority for the club remains avoiding relegation to the Championship.
