Athlete Disqualification

Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych was disqualified from the Winter Games. The disqualification resulted from the use of a helmet depicting Ukrainian athletes killed in the war with Russia. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) met with Heraskevych, acknowledging his message of remembrance, but stated that a solution for the field of play could not be found. The IOC had offered alternatives, including displaying the helmet before and after the race or wearing a black armband during competition.

Heraskevych's team reportedly plans to appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, challenging the IOC's stance on symbolic displays during competition.
