Freight Train Derails in Oak Lawn, Disrupting Local Transportation

Rail Service Suspension

Metra subsequently shut down all Southwest services due to the impact on its rails. Riders were advised to seek alternate routes.

Road Closures Implemented

Road closures were implemented on Central Avenue between 107th Street and Pleasant Boulevard, and on Ridgeland Avenue between Southwest Highway and Washington Street.

The railroad crossing in the 10700-block of Central Avenue is anticipated to remain closed to all traffic for a minimum of one day.

Authorities reported that the derailment did not involve hazardous materials, and no injuries were sustained.
