Commanders Announce Staff Changes, Welker Moves to Offensive Staff
Washington Commanders Head Coach Dan Quinn has implemented several staff changes following the 2025 season. These adjustments include new coordinator appointments and a significant move for Wes Welker within the coaching ranks.
New Coordinators Appointed
Both coordinator positions have been filled, with Daronte Jones named defensive coordinator and David Blough appointed offensive coordinator.
These key appointments finalize the leadership structure for both sides of the ball.
Wes Welker Transitions to Offensive Coaching Role
Wes Welker has transitioned from his previous role as a personnel analyst to the offensive coaching staff. The specific title for Welker's new position has not yet been publicly disclosed by the organization.
Welker's Extensive Football Background
Welker originally joined the Commanders during the previous offseason as a personnel analyst. Prior to his time in Washington, he served as a wide receivers coach for both the San Francisco 49ers and the Miami Dolphins.
As a player, Welker was a two-time All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowler, accumulating 903 receptions, 9,924 receiving yards, and 50 touchdowns during his distinguished career.
He also notably assisted with special teams during a period when Brian Schneider was managing a health issue.
Key Support for Welker's New Role
Reports indicate that Welker's move to the offensive coaching staff was supported by both Head Coach Dan Quinn and newly appointed Offensive Coordinator David Blough.
