UFC Champion Tom Aspinall Undergoes Double Eye Surgery
UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall is currently recovering from surgery on both eyes. The operations followed a significant incident that occurred during his fight against Ciryl Gane in October.
The bout with Gane ultimately ended in a no-contest. This decision came after Aspinall was jabbed in each eye by two of Gane's fingers. The fight was stopped because Aspinall could not see well enough to continue.
The fight against Ciryl Gane concluded in a no-contest after Aspinall sustained eye injuries from two of Gane's fingers, leading to the bout's stoppage.
Recovery and Vision Status
Optegra's medical team has been actively supporting Aspinall's recovery process. Doctors performed operations on both eyes in an effort to restore his vision. Currently, Aspinall still has poor vision and has not announced a timetable for his return to competition.
Championship Future Uncertain
The fight against Gane marked Aspinall's first title defense as the undisputed champion, a status he achieved after Jon Jones relinquished his title. UFC CEO Dana White had previously announced intentions to rebook the fight between Aspinall and Gane.
Despite intentions to rebook the Aspinall-Gane fight, a new date has not yet been set due to the champion's ongoing recovery.
