Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz to Reprise Roles in New 'Mummy' Installment

Universal Pictures has announced a new installment in "The Mummy" franchise, scheduled for release on May 19, 2028. The film will feature the return of Academy Award winners Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz.

Directing duties will be handled by Radio Silence, with a screenplay penned by David Coggeshall.

Production Insights

The new film is set for a theatrical release on May 19, 2028. This date was previously reserved by Universal Pictures for an unspecified event film. Currently, no other wide releases are scheduled for that day.

Radio Silence, the directing team composed of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, will lead the project. The duo recently directed Universal's 2024 film "Abigail." David Coggeshall is credited as the screenwriter for the upcoming installment.

Sean Daniel, who produced the initial three films starring Fraser and the 2017 reboot, will return as a producer. Additional producers include William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein of Project X Entertainment.

Brendan Fraser is also set to serve as an executive producer, alongside Jason F. Brown from Hivemind and Denis Stewart. Overseeing the film's production on behalf of the studio are Jay Polidoro, Universal's EVP Production Development, and Jacqueline Garell, Director of Production Development.

Plot details for the new film have not yet been disclosed.

Brendan Fraser previously headlined three installments in "The Mummy" franchise: "The Mummy" (1999), "The Mummy Returns" (2001), and "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" (2008). Rachel Weisz starred opposite Fraser in the first two films but did not appear in the 2008 installment.

The "Mummy" franchise has collectively generated $1.8 billion globally across its various films.
