Gubernatorial Candidate Suspends Campaign After Daughter's Fatal Stabbing; Husband Charged

Minnesota gubernatorial candidate Jeff Johnson has suspended his campaign following the fatal stabbing of his daughter, Hallie Marie Tobler, 22, in her St. Cloud apartment. Her husband, Dylan Tobler, 23, has been charged with one count of second-degree murder in connection with her death and remains hospitalized under police custody.

Incident Details

Hallie Marie Tobler was discovered deceased over the weekend in her St. Cloud, Minnesota apartment, located approximately 65 miles northwest of Minneapolis. Authorities reported she had sustained multiple stab wounds.

Her husband, Dylan Tobler, was found inside the residence with self-inflicted stab wounds. He is currently hospitalized in stable condition and is being held under police custody.

Dylan Tobler is scheduled for transfer to a local jail following his release from the hospital. He has been charged with one count of second-degree murder in connection with his wife's death.

Campaign Suspension

Jeff Johnson, a former St. Cloud city councilman, launched his bid for the Republican nomination for Minnesota governor in March of the previous year. He announced the suspension of his campaign on Monday.

The Minnesota Republican Party confirmed Johnson's decision to cancel his campaign.

Background and Condolences

Hallie and Dylan Tobler became engaged in 2021 after dating for five years and were married in November of that year.

Following the announcement, Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar issued a statement extending condolences to Jeff Johnson and his family. The Minnesota Republican Party also released a statement expressing condolences to Johnson and his family.
