The AYANEO NEXT 2, an upcoming handheld PC, is scheduled to begin shipping this month.
A Powerhouse with a Massive Battery and OLED Display
The company has released detailed specifications for the device, which features a large internal battery and an OLED display, distinguishing it from competing models with similar processors.
Processor and Graphics
The AYANEO NEXT 2 will be powered by the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 (Strix Halo) processor, which includes Radeon 8060S integrated graphics. This processor is reported to offer higher performance than the chips used in devices such as the ROG Ally X and Legion Go 2. A version with the AI Max 385 processor, which offers slightly lower performance, will also be available.
Display and Design
The device features a 9.06-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2400x1504 (10:9 aspect ratio) and a 165Hz refresh rate. Input controls include an 8-way D-pad, dual touchpads, four rear back buttons, hall effect analog triggers, and TMR joysticks.
Battery and Size
The AYANEO NEXT 2 includes an internal 116Wh battery.
Competing handhelds from GPD and OneXPlayer that use the same AI Max+ 395 processor rely on external, detachable batteries. With a 9-inch screen and a larger internal battery, the device is expected to be larger and potentially heavier than competitors with 7-inch or 8-inch screens and 80-85Wh batteries. The device's weight has not been disclosed.
Pricing and Configurations
Three configurations are planned.
Pricing for the AI Max+ 395 version:
- Early bird price of $2,299 for the 64GB RAM + 1TB SSD configuration.
- $3,499 for the 128GB RAM + 2TB SSD configuration.
For the AI Max 385 version:
- Starting at $1,799 for 32GB RAM + 1TB SSD.
Pre-Order and Availability
The company previously suspended pre-orders due to component price increases but later honored earlier prices and reopened pre-orders.
Currently, only the middle configuration is available for pre-order. The device is expected to start shipping this month.
Market Position
The AYANEO NEXT 2 is positioned as an alternative to other handhelds, such as the GPD WIN 5 model, which has similar specifications and is priced at $2,859.95.
