HMRI Drives Cancer Research Through Data Infrastructure
The Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) has a team led by Dr. Patrick Skippen dedicated to developing robust data infrastructure for cancer research. This infrastructure is crucial for advancing laboratory discoveries into effective clinical applications for patients.

Strategic Partnerships Accelerate Urogenital Cancer Trials
In 2022, HMRI initiated a significant partnership with the Australian and New Zealand Urogenital and Prostate Cancer Trials Group (ANZUP). This collaborative effort actively supports six clinical trials focused on investigating new treatments for both prostate and testicular cancers.
HMRI contributes essential services, including database development, statistical analysis, and trial coordination. This comprehensive support allows ANZUP to concentrate its resources on addressing scientific questions, free from logistical challenges, thereby accelerating the pace of trials.

Expanding Impact: GI Cancer and Neuroendocrine Tumor Research
Beyond its work with ANZUP, HMRI has also provided valuable consultation to the GI Cancer Trials.
More recently, its Data Management and Health Informatics team developed an international database for the STOPNET trial. This important trial is designed to assess quality of life outcomes for individuals living with neuroendocrine tumors.
This initiative underscores the profound significance of advanced data infrastructure and digital health tools in enhancing patient recovery and improving overall life quality following cancer treatment.
