GWM Expands Australian PHEV Lineup with Updated Haval H6 GT and New Tank 300

GWM has introduced two updated plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) to the Australian market. The Haval H6 GT PHEV has received interior and powertrain updates, while the Tank 300 Hi4-T PHEV has launched as a new model variant. Both vehicles feature electrified all-wheel-drive systems.

Haval H6 GT PHEV Updates

The updated Haval H6 GT PHEV is now available in Australian showrooms in a single Ultra trim, with a drive-away price of $52,990.

Interior and Technology

  • The dashboard design has been updated to match the revised Haval H6 range introduced last year.
  • A new 14.6-inch touchscreen runs GWM's Coffee operating system and includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
  • The vehicle retains a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.
  • The gear shifter has been relocated to the steering column.
  • GWM states the interior uses higher-quality materials. The GT variant continues to feature suede upholstery.

Powertrain and Performance

  • The vehicle now uses GWM's Hybrid Intelligent 4WD (Hi4) system, an electrified all-wheel-drive layout with an electric motor on each axle.
  • Power is delivered via a four-speed Direct Hybrid Transmission.
  • Total system power is 321kW. Torque is 642Nm, a decrease from the previous model's 762Nm.
  • The claimed 0-100km/h acceleration time is 4.6 seconds, an improvement from 4.9 seconds.
  • It retains a 35.43kWh ternary lithium battery with a claimed NEDC electric range of 183km and a combined-cycle fuel consumption of 0.6L/100km.

Model Context

  • The standard Haval H6 PHEV has total outputs of 268kW and 780Nm. It uses a 19.09kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a claimed 100km of NEDC range and fuel economy of 1.1L/100km.
  • The petrol-powered Haval H6 GT remains on sale but does not receive the interior and technology updates applied to the PHEV variant.
  • GWM reports that sales of the Haval H6 GT are split almost evenly between petrol and plug-in hybrid powertrains, with the PHEV accounting for 51.5% of sales.

Tank 300 Hi4-T PHEV Launch

GWM has launched the Tank 300 Hi4-T Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) in Australia.

Pricing and Availability

  • The flagship Ultra trim arrived in March, with the entry-level Lux model following in April.
  • The Lux model is priced at $55,990 drive-away, and the Ultra model at $59,990 drive-away.

Market Context

This launch makes GWM one of only two automotive brands currently offering petrol, diesel, hybrid, and PHEV versions of the same model in Australia. The Kia Sorento is the other model, though its base petrol engine is scheduled to be phased out by the end of March.

Broader GWM PHEV Strategy

The Haval H6 GT was first launched in Australia in 2025 as GWM's first plug-in hybrid in the market. It has since been followed by PHEV versions of the regular Haval H6, Tank 500, Cannon Alpha, and Tank 300.

According to GWM, it became Australia's second-largest seller of PHEVs in March, behind BYD, having delivered more than 2,700 PHEVs in under 14 months.
