During Season 2, Episode 4, Dr. Whitaker (Gerran Howell) provided an update on Dr. Collins' whereabouts and professional advancements to a patient. He explained that Dr. Collins had successfully completed her residency.

She subsequently relocated to Portland to assume a position as an attending physician at a new hospital. Whitaker also disclosed that Collins is in the process of adopting a baby, a decision influenced by a desire to be near family.

Robby was revealed to have overheard this pivotal conversation, giving him insight into Collins' new chapter.

Production Insights and Robby's Reaction

Noah Wyle shared insights into his improvised performance during the scene where Robby learns of Collins' news.

Wyle commented on his improvised role in the scene, stating he aimed for Robby to display a mix of melancholy for their past and satisfaction for Collins' newfound happiness.

Series creator R. Scott Gemmill further clarified aspects of Collins' long-running storyline. He confirmed that the narrative, which focused on a successful professional encountering challenges in achieving motherhood, was a long-standing plot point. This included the significant revelation that the miscarried baby might have been Robby's. Gemmill also confirmed that Robby had prior knowledge of Collins' plans and found contentment in her pursuit of having a child.
