New Image Unveils Pismis 24 Star Cluster

An image released on December 22, 2025, combines data from NASA's James Webb Space Telescope and Chandra X-ray Observatory to depict the Pismis 24 star cluster.

The James Webb Space Telescope's infrared data (red, green, and blue) reveals a stellar landscape, while Chandra's X-ray data (red, green, and blue) adds visual elements representing high-energy activity from active stars within the cluster.

Pismis 24: A Crucial Stellar Nursery

Pismis 24 is a young star cluster situated in the core of the Lobster Nebula. It is located approximately 5,500 light-years from Earth in the constellation Scorpius.

This region is notably a stellar nursery and a significant site for massive star birth, providing important information on the characteristics and development of large and massive stars.
