JWST Unveils Expansive Galactic Map

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has successfully mapped a significant region located in the constellation Sextans.

This observed section of sky is approximately 2.5 times larger than the full Moon. Webb dedicated about 255 hours to observing this specific region, leading to the identification of nearly 800,000 galaxies.

The resulting map shows approximately 10 times more galaxies than those previously observed by ground-based observatories and double the number identified by the Hubble Space Telescope.

This new data significantly expands our understanding of galactic populations, surpassing previous observations from both ground-based observatories and the Hubble Space Telescope.
