J. Cole Addresses Apology Amidst "Big Three" Scrutiny with New EP

J. Cole previously offered an apology on stage at Dreamville Festival following his track "7 Minute Drill," which criticized Kendrick Lamar. This apology was seen by some fans as a weak move within hip-hop.

Subsequently, Drake engaged in a rap battle with Kendrick Lamar and was defeated. These combined events fueled discussions about J. Cole's standing in "The Big Three" of hip-hop.

New EP "Birthday Blizzard '26" Arrives

J. Cole has officially released a new EP titled "Birthday Blizzard '26." The project features four freestyles and is hosted by DJ Clue. Fans can find the EP available on Cole's website.

This release sets the stage for his highly anticipated upcoming album, "The Fall-Off," which is slated for Friday, February 6th.

Addressing His Position and Future Intentions

Significantly, one of the tracks on the new EP directly addresses the previous apology. J. Cole raps about the impact of this apology on his perceived status within hip-hop's elite.

He stated:

"I used to be top, see, the apology dropped me way out of the top 3, no problem, I’m probably my best when they doubt me. The top ain’t really what I thought it would be, so I jumped off and landed back at the bottom and restarted at a level where I wasn’t regarded as much, just to climb past them again and tell them all to keep up.”

These lyrics clearly outline his intention to regain his prominent standing in hip-hop through his latest musical output. Initial fan reception to the new freestyles has been largely positive.
