Goldfrapp Members Share Insights into "Ooh La La" Creation

Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory, members of the electronic duo Goldfrapp, have offered insights into the creation of their song "Ooh La La."

Goldfrapp stated that the song was

conceived as an ode to glam rock, influenced by her sister's admiration for Marc Bolan.

She incorporated vocal effects and drum sounds reminiscent of older records. The chorus's "Ooh la la" phrase originated from a trip to France, and the team opted to layer voices and add vocoder effects

to create a synthetic yet natural vocal feel.

The lyrics were described as personal, reflecting a relationship, and utilized visual metaphors. These included an image of a woman breaking a shoe heel from a 1950s film and a reference to Baudelaire's poems.

Adrian Utley from Portishead contributed guitar work, noted for his

instinctive and lean playing style, which marked a departure from the band's previous avoidance of guitars.

For the music video, Goldfrapp envisioned an imaginary glam rock band. Directed by Dawn Shadforth with styling by the late Cathy Edwards, the video benefited from substantial budgets, allowing for detailed and unhurried production.
