The film is produced by Paula Pell, Kim Kardashian, Jessica Elbaum, Will Ferrell, and Alex Brown for Gloria Sanchez. Cris Abrego and Eva Longoria's Hyphenate Media Group also serve as producers. Mary Bundy and David Hyman are the executive producers.

"The Fifth Wheel" is part of Netflix's recent slate of productions in Los Angeles. A release date for the film has not yet been announced.
