Incident at Premiere
A man identified as Johnson Wen was charged with public nuisance in Singapore following an incident at the Asia-Pacific premiere of 'Wicked: For Good'. The event, held in Singapore, featured actress and singer Ariana Grande among its cast members.
During the cast's appearance on a yellow carpet, Mr. Wen reportedly jumped a barricade and approached Ms. Grande. Co-star Cynthia Erivo was observed intervening.
Legal Proceedings and Background
Mr. Wen, an Australian national, had posted on Instagram on Thursday evening stating he was 'free after being arrested'. However, a Singapore court subsequently charged him on Friday afternoon. Local media reports indicate that Mr. Wen, who is currently unrepresented, intends to plead guilty.
Mr. Wen has a documented history of disrupting celebrity events. His social media contains footage of him on stage at a Katy Perry concert in Sydney in June of the current year, and a similar incident at a The Chainsmokers concert in December of the previous year.
If convicted, Mr. Wen faces a potential fine of up to S$2,000 (approximately $1,540 USD or £1,170 GBP).
Context and Aftermath
This incident occurred approximately six years after a suicide bomb attack at Ms. Grande's concert in Manchester in May 2017, which resulted in 22 fatalities and numerous injuries.
Following the event, security personnel escorted Mr. Wen away. Ms. Grande's co-stars, including Michelle Yeoh and Cynthia Erivo, were observed providing comfort. Ms. Grande has not issued a public statement regarding the incident, and the remainder of the premiere proceeded as scheduled.
