Russian Strikes Target Kyiv and Other Regions
Three individuals have died and at least 26 sustained injuries in Kyiv following a series of Russian drone and missile strikes. Ukrainian officials reported these events, with Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko describing widespread explosions and fires in residential areas across the city.
Impact on Kyiv
Damage was reported in nearly all districts of Kyiv, affecting residential buildings, a hospital, a school, and administrative structures, according to emergency services. Over 40 people were rescued, including 14 from a fire in a residential building in the Desnayanskyi district, where one fatality occurred. Another individual was extracted from debris in the same building.
Medical teams were deployed to address the incidents, and nine individuals were hospitalized, with one person reported to be in a serious condition.
Parts of Kyiv's heating network were also damaged in the attacks. Potential disruptions to the city's electricity and water supplies were noted by the mayor.
Broader Context and Previous Incidents
Ukraine's air force indicated that other regions, including Sumy, were also targeted by drones and guided bombs. Russia's defense ministry stated it had intercepted or downed 216 Ukrainian drones targeting its industrial facilities and air travel infrastructure.
These overnight strikes in Kyiv follow a previous Russian offensive less than a week prior, which resulted in six fatalities and damage to residential buildings and energy infrastructure.
Russia has consistently stated that its attacks on energy targets are directed at the Ukrainian military. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has previously called for comprehensive Western sanctions on Russian energy in response to such attacks.
