The "Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri" event, held on January 25, 2026, in Japan, marked the franchise's 40th anniversary with several new project announcements. These include a new anime sequel, "Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol," a new game titled "AGE1000," and a "Dragon Ball Super: Beerus remake TV anime."

Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol

The new anime, "Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol," is a direct sequel to the "Universe Survival Arc" of the "Dragon Ball Super" anime, which aired from 2015 to 2018. It will adapt the "Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc" from the Dragon Ball manga. The story will depict Son Goku and Vegeta collaborating with the Galactic Patrol to combat a new antagonist, "Planet-Eater" Moro.

Akira Toriyama is credited with Original Work, Story, and Character Design for the anime. Masako Nozawa, the Japanese voice actress for Son Goku, and Akio Iyoku, Executive Producer of the Dragon Ball series, were present during the announcement.

40th Anniversary Special Video Unveiled

A "DRAGON BALL 40th Anniversary Special Video" was released globally. Produced by Toei Animation and directed by Naoki Miyahara, this commemorative animation brings Akira Toriyama’s color illustrations to life using modern techniques, focusing on recreating the original artwork's textures and colors.

The video's original orchestral score, titled "Infinite Future," was composed by Hans Zimmer and arranged by Tom Lucas. Hans Zimmer shared a message expressing his enjoyment of participating in the project.

Teaser Visual Revealed

A teaser visual for the new projects was also revealed. It shows Goku and Vegeta standing together in Galactic Patrol uniforms and battle armor, with the Galactic Patrol symbol prominently displayed.

Franchise Legacy and Future

The Dragon Ball manga, created by Akira Toriyama, began in 1984. Akira Toriyama passed away on March 1, 2024. The franchise recently aired the "Dragon Ball DAIMA" anime and has other projects in development, including a Dragon Ball Theme Park planned for Qiddiya City in Saudi Arabia.
