Chris Pine Uninformed on "Star Trek" Future Direction
Chris Pine has stated he is uninformed about the future direction of the "Star Trek" franchise. When questioned at the Sundance Film Festival regarding Paramount's new leadership and their plans for the franchise, Pine indicated he had no specific information.
A new "Star Trek" film is reportedly in development by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, who also worked on "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves." This upcoming film is intended to revitalize the franchise and will not be a continuation of the J.J. Abrams-led reboot. Chris Pine, who portrayed Captain Kirk in three "Star Trek" films between 2009 and 2016, is not expected to be featured in this new project.
When asked for advice for Paramount's new leadership regarding "Star Trek," Pine responded, "Have fun, good luck, live long and prosper."
Pine Kicks Off Sundance with "Carousel"
Pine also opened the 2026 Sundance Film Festival with his new film, "Carousel." The romance drama co-stars Jenny Slate and was directed by Rachel Lambert.
In "Carousel," Pine plays a single father whose life undergoes changes following the return of his high school ex-girlfriend. Pine commented on his character's difficulty in expressing emotions, noting that Slate's character helps him confront these feelings.
