Phil Collins Reveals Extensive Health Challenges, Requires 24-Hour Nurse Care

British rock musician Phil Collins has openly discussed his ongoing health challenges, revealing he now requires 24-hour live-in nurse care. In an interview for the BBC podcast series "Eras," Collins stated that he has experienced multiple health issues in recent years.

Ongoing Health Battles and Daily Support

Collins, who will turn 75 on January 30, reported undergoing five knee operations and currently walks with assistance. He detailed the critical role of his live-in nurse:

"He explained that his nurse ensures he takes his medication."

His health issues have included severe knee problems, contracting COVID-19 while hospitalized, and kidney complications, which he attributed to past alcohol consumption. These conditions led to him spending several months hospitalized.

Impact on Career and Future Uncertainties

Collins expressed a desire to regain full mobility and health, though he is uncertain if he will perform live again. His last concert appearance was in 2022. He reflected positively on his career, calling it varied and eventful. In a 2021 interview, Collins had previously mentioned his inability to play the drums, a role his son, Nic Collins, filled during a Genesis reunion tour, with Phil Collins performing vocals.

A History of Health Incidents

Over the years, Collins has sustained several fractures. He underwent back surgery in 2015, which unfortunately resulted in nerve damage. A fall in 2017 further necessitated the use of a cane for walking assistance.

Personal Reflections and Family Life

A father of five, including actress Lily Collins, he commented on his efforts to address past actions that may have negatively affected his children. He expressed pride in his children's well-adjusted nature and independence.

The interview is the fifth and final installment of the "Eras" series, with a television version scheduled to air on the BBC on January 31.
