PGA Tour Roundup: Scheffler's Historic Win, Teen Phenom's Record, and Clark's Closing 60

Scottie Scheffler joins Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as the only players to reach 20 wins and four majors before turning 30.

Scottie Scheffler Wins The American Express

Scottie Scheffler won The American Express PGA Tour event in La Quinta, California, with a four-shot victory. Scheffler carded a six-under-par 66 in the final round on the Stadium Course, finishing with a total of 27-under-par 261.

His only significant error occurred on the par-3 17th hole, where he recorded a double bogey after his tee shot landed in the water.

This victory is Scheffler's 20th PGA Tour title. He joins Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as the only players to achieve 20 wins and four major championships before turning 30 years of age. Scheffler has now posted at least one victory for five consecutive seasons.

Australian Jason Day finished tied for second, posting an eight-under-par 64 in the final round. Ryan Gerard (65), Matt McCarty (68), and Andrew Putnam (68) also finished tied for second with a total of 265. Si Woo Kim, the overnight leader, shot a 72 and finished tied for sixth at 22-under-par.

Scheffler is scheduled to take one week off before competing in three consecutive events, beginning with the Phoenix Open.

Blades Brown's Record-Setting Performance

"Brown broke Bobby Jones' record as the youngest stroke play medalist in U.S. Amateur history at age 16."

Teenager Blades Brown finished his week at The American Express tied for 18th place. The 18-year-old golfer shot a 12-under-par 60 during the second round, establishing a new record for the Nicklaus Tournament Course at PGA West. Brown narrowly missed achieving a sub-60 round in PGA Tour history.

Brown completed the Bahamas Great Abaco Classic on the Korn Ferry Tour on Wednesday, where he finished tied for 17th. He then traveled approximately 3,000 miles via private jet to tee off in the PGA Tour's American Express event on Thursday. This sequence marked a potential historic instance of a golfer playing eight competitive rounds across both tours in eight days.

Brown, a Nashville native, turned professional a year ago, opting not to attend college. He holds full status on the Korn Ferry Tour and received a sponsor's exemption for the American Express. He broke Bobby Jones' record as the youngest stroke play medalist in U.S. Amateur history at age 16 and made his PGA Tour debut before turning 17.

Wyndham Clark Wins CJ Cup Byron Nelson

Wyndham Clark won the CJ Cup Byron Nelson golf tournament with a 30-under-par total of 254, shooting 11-under 60 in the final round. This marks his second career victory with a closing 60; the first occurred at the 2024 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, which was shortened to 54 holes due to weather.

Clark started the final round tied with Scottie Scheffler, who finished at 25-under. Si Woo Kim led by two strokes entering the final round but shot 65 to finish 27-under, three strokes behind Clark.

Key moments from the final round:

  • Clark took the lead for the first time with an eagle at the par-5 12th hole
  • He made birdie putts of 45 feet at the par-3 15th and 17th holes
  • Kim missed a 44-foot birdie putt at the 15th hole

Jackson Suber finished fourth at 23-under, Keith Mitchell fifth at 22-under. Brooks Koepka shot 68 and Jordan Spieth shot 66.

Scottie Scheffler's Final Round at Pebble Beach

In a separate tournament at Pebble Beach, Scottie Scheffler completed Sunday's final round, teeing off over an hour before the final group. He began the round eight shots behind 54-hole leader Akshay Bhatia.

Scheffler recorded a birdie-eagle-birdie start and was 7-under through his first seven holes. He carded three bogeys, including one on the par-4 15th. After pars on the 16th and 17th holes, he made an eagle on the par-5 18th following a 329-yard drive and a 186-yard approach shot to within three feet.

His round of 63 was 9-under-par and included three bogeys. During this round, Scheffler made over 150 feet of putts and recorded three eagles. He was 10 shots behind the first-round leader after day one.
