Crew Chief John Goble provided explanations for key officiating decisions following the Rockets at 76ers game.
Goaltending Review Decision
Tyrese Maxey's attempt at the end of regulation was not reviewed for goaltending. Goble stated that, by rule, a goaltending infraction must first be called on the floor to be eligible for review. The officiating crew determined in real-time that the play was a legitimate blocked shot.
Inadvertent Whistle Incident
An inadvertent whistle occurred after an official recognized a timeout request from Coach Udoka. The official subsequently realized there was no possession by a team at the time of the request, which meant the timeout could not be granted. This sequence of events led to the inadvertent whistle.
Non-Reviewable Goaltending
Goble confirmed that despite the stoppage in play caused by the inadvertent whistle, the potential goaltending call could not be reviewed because the original ruling on the court was not a goaltending infraction.
