Former MLC Swimming Coach Granted Bail on Child Assault Charges
A former swimming coach at Methodist Ladies' College in Melbourne has been granted bail on multiple charges related to the alleged sexual assault of a minor.
Court Proceedings and Charges
On a recent date, the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court granted bail to 31-year-old Jayden Brian, a former swimming coach at Methodist Ladies’ College (MLC).
Brian faces nine charges, including intentional sexual touching of a child under 16, grooming, and possessing child abuse material.
He was remanded in custody in October 2025 and applied for bail last week. Magistrate Michelle Mykytowycz presided over the hearing, which Brian attended via video link from prison.
The magistrate acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations and described the prosecution's case as strong. She noted that the alleged victim had provided a recorded statement to police and that Brian had admitted the email and Snapchat accounts involved were his.
The magistrate stated the alleged victim was a vulnerable young person and that her safety was a consideration in the bail decision. Ultimately, she determined that strict bail conditions could mitigate the risk to an acceptable level, leading to Brian's release.
Details of the Allegations
According to police and prosecution allegations, the offenses involve a 13-year-old girl and are said to have occurred in September 2025.
The allegations state that in September 2025, Brian contacted the girl via Snapchat while posing as a 14-year-old boy. It is alleged he sent explicit messages and a video to the girl.
Police further allege he arranged to meet the girl and that on September 25, he engaged in sexual activity with her in exchange for cigarettes, alcohol, and a $50 Amazon gift card.
The girl reported the incident to friends and family before making a formal police complaint two days later, on September 27. Upon Brian's arrest, police reported finding child abuse material on his electronic devices, including an MLC-issued iPad.
Strict Bail Conditions Imposed
The court imposed the following bail conditions on Jayden Brian:
- He must adhere to a curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- He is prohibited from using a smartphone or any social media or dating profiles.
- He is banned from contacting, stalking, or engaging in predatory behavior towards the alleged victim.
- He is prohibited from going near where the alleged victim lives or attends school.
- He is prohibited from contacting any current or former students of MLC.
Brian confirmed he understood these conditions during the hearing.
