Authorities in Delhi have mandated hybrid class instruction for primary students and prohibited non-essential construction activity. These measures were implemented following a deterioration in the Indian capital's air quality.
On Tuesday, additional anti-pollution regulations were enforced, which include restrictions on the movement of goods carriers within Delhi and its surrounding areas. Official reports classify Delhi's air quality as "severe," a condition that may affect healthy individuals and impact those with pre-existing medical conditions.
Data from the Central Pollution Control Board on Wednesday indicated PM2.5 levels in Delhi reached 438. This concentration of fine particulate matter exceeds the World Health Organization's safe limit by nearly 30 times and India's national average by approximately eight times. The WHO recommends a 24-hour average of no more than 15.
Medical professionals have advised the public, particularly children and elderly individuals, to limit outdoor activities unless essential. The use of protective masks is also recommended for those who must venture outside.
