The Hongqi Bridge, situated in China's southwestern province of Sichuan, partially collapsed on Tuesday afternoon. The structure, measuring 758 meters (2,486 feet) in length, had been closed to traffic since Monday due to the detection of cracks on nearby slopes and roads.
Authorities reported that worsening conditions on the mountainside triggered landslides, which subsequently caused a section of the bridge to collapse. There have been no reports of casualties.
Construction of the bridge was completed earlier this year by contractors Sichuan Road and Bridge Group, according to their public statements.
