Russell Brand Denies New Sexual Offense Charges, Granted Bail

Russell Brand has been granted bail and has entered a plea of not guilty to two new charges of sexual offense, including one count of rape and one count of sexual assault. These charges are related to alleged incidents in London in 2009 involving two women. Mr. Brand previously denied five other charges, including two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault, which relate to four women and alleged incidents between 1999 and 2005.

Latest Court Proceedings

Mr. Brand, 50, appeared via video link from the United States at Westminster Magistrates' Court for a bail hearing on either Monday or Tuesday, confirming his name and date of birth during the six-minute session. Following this appearance, he was granted bail.

He subsequently appeared at Southwark Crown Court in London, where he entered a plea of not guilty to the two additional charges. These charges accuse him of raping one woman and sexually assaulting a second woman in 2009.

A hearing is scheduled for February 17 at Southwark Crown Court to determine whether these new allegations will be combined with the existing case.

Mr. Brand's legal representation has requested additional time for him to address these latest charges.

Previous Allegations and Investigation

The new charges bring the total number of allegations against Mr. Brand to seven. Last year, he was initially charged with five offenses: two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault. These earlier alleged incidents involved four different women between 1999 and 2005. Mr. Brand pleaded not guilty to these five charges in May 2024 at Southwark Crown Court. A trial date for these initial charges has been set for June 3, 2026.

The Metropolitan Police's investigation into Mr. Brand began in 2023 after multiple allegations emerged following a "Dispatches" documentary series by Channel 4 and a report in The Sunday Times.

These reports detailed accusations of rape, sexual assaults, and emotional abuse against Mr. Brand. Chief Inspector Tariq Farooqi stated in December, when the two additional charges were made, that the investigation remained ongoing.

Mr. Brand's Response

Mr. Brand has consistently denied all allegations against him, asserting that all his past relationships were consensual. He has maintained his innocence regarding all charges.
