NGC 4490 and NGC 4485 represent the closest known actively star-forming, interacting dwarf galaxies, excluding the Magellanic Clouds located within the Local Group. These galaxies are situated 24 million light-years away. The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has provided detailed observations of the bridge of gas, dust, and stars that connects the two galaxies, a level of detail not previously achieved. Analysis of the stellar populations within these galaxies indicates two recent periods of star formation, occurring approximately 200 million years ago and 30 million years ago.
