View source

Venus Williams, 45, became the oldest woman to compete at the Australian Open as a wildcard. In her first-round match against Olga Danilovic, Williams lost the first set in a tiebreak before winning the second set 6-3.

In the decisive third set, Williams held a 4-0 lead but subsequently lost six consecutive games, resulting in a loss to Danilovic. Following the match, Williams commented, "I felt good. Also it's the biggest lead I've had since I've been back. In a lot of ways, I'm having to relearn how to do things again...I'm really proud of my effort today because I'm playing better with each match, getting to the places that I want to get to."
