49ers Receiver Jauan Jennings' Contract Situation and Coach Shanahan's Evaluation

View source

San Francisco 49ers receiver Jauan Jennings expressed anticipation for the upcoming game against the Seahawks. His approaching free agency status has been a topic of discussion.

Two years prior, following Super Bowl LVIII, Jennings became a free agent and re-signed with the 49ers for a two-year, $11.89 million contract. His 2023 regular season featured 265 receiving yards, which increased to 975 yards in 2024. This year, following contract discussions regarding his 2025 compensation, Jennings recorded 643 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.

In the wild-card round against the Eagles, Jennings completed a touchdown pass to running back Christian McCaffrey via a trick play.

On Thursday, Coach Kyle Shanahan commented on Jennings' performance and value. Shanahan described Jennings as a "true competitor" and "one of the best receivers I’ve ever been around" based on his consistent play. Shanahan also stated that Jennings was as important as any receiver on the 2023 team, believing Jennings would have been the Super Bowl LVIII MVP if the team had won. He noted Jennings' reliability in various situations and his consistency on third downs. Despite having receivers like Deebo Samuel Sr. and Brandon Aiyuk ahead of him for several years, Shanahan observed that Jennings embraced opportunities as a number one receiver when they arose.

Jennings is expected to approach the open market in less than two months.
