USDA Directs States Regarding November SNAP Benefits
Washington D.C. — The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued a directive on Saturday instructing states to reverse any actions taken to provide full Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for November 2025.
Directive DetailsIn a release, the USDA stated: "To the extent States sent full SNAP payment files for November 2025, this was unauthorized. Accordingly, States must immediately undo any steps taken to issue full SNAP benefits for November 2025." The department further requested that states notify the relevant FNS Regional Office representative of the corrective measures undertaken to ensure compliance with the memorandum.
Context of Supreme Court ActionThis directive from the USDA follows an administrative stay granted by the U.S. Supreme Court on Friday. The Supreme Court's order temporarily blocked a lower court's ruling which had mandated the Trump administration to disburse full SNAP benefits for November. The high court indicated that its temporary order would remain in effect until the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit addresses the administration's request for a stay in that court.
