Pulp Reverses Boycott, Will Perform at Adelaide Festival
British indie band Pulp will perform at the Adelaide festival on February 27, reversing an earlier decision to withdraw. The band had initially decided to boycott the event in protest of the Adelaide writers' week's cancellation of Palestinian writer Randa Abdel-Fattah.
Festival Organizers Resolve Dispute
Following Pulp's initial decision, festival organizers engaged in dialogue with the band. The festival board responsible for the decision to bar Abdel-Fattah has largely been replaced. Organizers issued an apology to Dr. Randa Abdel-Fattah, which she accepted, and invited her to speak at the 2027 event. The entire Adelaide writers' week was subsequently canceled.
Band's Statement and Upcoming Performance
Pulp released a statement indicating their opposition to censorship and their support for freedom of expression. They acknowledged the positive developments from the festival organizers as a reason to proceed with their performance. Lead singer Jarvis Cocker stated that the upcoming concert would be free and open to all who respect the freedom of voices.
