Dozens of domestic flights at Sydney Airport have been canceled, and others are experiencing delays due to a shortage of air traffic control staff.
Flight Operations Impacted
Approximately 30 Qantas and Jetstar flights were canceled. Virgin Australia also anticipates cancellations. Airservices Australia implemented “spacing intervals” for flights arriving and departing Sydney to maintain safe operations on Thursday.
Cause of Disruptions
Airservices Australia reported that these measures were initiated after a number of staff members took short-notice sick and carer's leave.

A spokesperson for Airservices Australia stated, “We will keep delays to a minimum and apologize for any impact to our customers and the traveling public.”
