Ryan Hurst, known for his roles in "Sons of Anarchy" and "The Abandons," has been cast as Kratos in Prime Video's "God of War" series. This live-action adaptation is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios and has received a two-season order. Pre-production is currently underway in Vancouver.

Ronald D. Moore serves as writer, showrunner, and executive producer for the series. The plot follows Kratos and his son, Atreus, as they journey to spread the ashes of Faye, their wife and mother. The narrative focuses on Kratos's attempts to guide his son while Atreus seeks to teach his father about humanity.

Kratos, a Spartan by birth and a god, is a central figure in the "God of War" franchise. His story in the series will align with the more recent games, emphasizing his dynamic with his ten-year-old son, Atreus.

Hurst has prior involvement with the "God of War" universe, having voiced Thor in PlayStation's "God of War Ragnarök," for which he received a BAFTA Award nomination.

The series is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, in collaboration with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions. Executive producers include Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon. Joe Menosky, Marc Bernardin, Tania Lotia, and Ben McGinnis are co-executive producers. Frederick E.O. Toye is set to direct the initial two episodes.

Hurst's other notable credits include "The Walking Dead," "SWAT," "The Mysterious Benedict Society," "Bosch," and "Bates Motel." He is also slated to appear in Christopher Nolan's upcoming film, "The Odyssey."
