Melbourne Football Club has released an injury update concerning several players, including captain Max Gawn and ruck Tom Campbell.
Key Injury Updates
- Max Gawn: Fractured a finger during training. He will wear a splint for three weeks but is expected to be available for AAMI AFL Origin. Club footy boss Alan Richardson stated Gawn would maintain fitness during this period.
- Tom Campbell: Sustained a neck injury from a training collision, tearing a ligament. He will be in a neck brace for a month and is scheduled to see a neurosurgeon.
- Harry Sharp: Suffered a hamstring injury but is anticipated to return to full training in the coming weeks.
- Jack Viney: Managing an Achilles injury, he has resumed running and aims for a full training return in the next few weeks. Richardson noted positive steps in his rehabilitation.
- Bailey Laurie: Underwent surgery for a hand fracture. The club expects a return to the main group within a couple of weeks, depending on hand functionality.
- Jack Henderson: Dealing with a stress fracture to his sacrum throughout pre-season. He is projected to return to main training by the end of February.
- Jake Bowey: Sustained a long-term foot injury in December and will miss the beginning of the 2026 season. He is currently in the early stages of rehabilitation.
Additional players progressing through rehabilitation programs include draftee Tom Matthews (meniscus), Brody Mihocek (toe), Shane McAdam (Achilles), and Andy Moniz-Wakefield (knee).
Melbourne is scheduled to start its season against St Kilda on March 15 at the MCG.
