Dallas Mavericks player Anthony Davis will be sidelined for approximately six weeks due to ligament damage in his left hand. A medical evaluation on Tuesday confirmed that surgery will not be required for the injury, and recovery is anticipated within the six-week timeframe.
Davis sustained the injury while defending Lauri Markkanen during the Mavericks' 116-114 loss to the Utah Jazz last week.
This marks Davis's second absence of at least a month this season. He previously missed 15 of 16 games in November due to a calf strain. Davis has also been sidelined by a groin injury, resulting in him missing half of the Mavericks' 40 games this season.
Since being acquired by the Mavericks, Davis has missed 40 of 71 games, including his debut in February of last year when he re-aggravated an abdominal injury and subsequently missed 18 games. The Mavericks have missed the postseason for the second consecutive year.
