GRU Space announced plans to construct the first hotels on the Moon, targeting a start for tourist visits from Earth in 2032. This initiative is being undertaken by GRU Space.
Project Feasibility
GRU Space cites developments in commercial spaceflight as a key enabler for this project. The company notes that innovations from companies like SpaceX have contributed to reduced costs for launching cargo into orbit. GRU Space anticipates further decreases in launch costs due to increasing competition, including efforts from Blue Origin and various startups developing reusable rocket technologies.
Hotel Structure and Cost
Initial lunar hotels are planned to consist of inflatable modules designed to accommodate two to four individuals. These modules, along with the tourists, are intended to be transported directly to the Moon. GRU Space estimates a price of $416,000 per tourist, based on a schedule of three flights annually.
Envisioned Experience
The company envisions these lunar hotels offering a luxury space tourism experience. This experience is planned to include views of Earth, zero-gravity activities, and opportunities for guests to engage in scientific experiments.
