Central Coast Mariners Acquired by Total Soccer Growth Holdings
The Australian Professional Leagues (APL) has announced the acquisition of Central Coast Mariners FC by Total Soccer Growth Holdings (TSG), following a period of interim management after the club operator's participation agreement was terminated.
Acquisition and Ownership
Total Soccer Growth Holdings is a privately-owned international business. It is the majority shareholder of Queens Park Rangers (UK) and holds a stake in Los Angeles FC (USA). The acquisition includes the men's A-League team and the club's academy for men's and women's teams.
Transition and Interim Management
Prior to the acquisition, the APL assumed interim management of the Central Coast Mariners. The APL stated that this action followed the club operator's notification of the forfeiture of its club participation agreement (CPA), which led the APL to terminate the CPA. The APL undertook this measure to provide stability and continuity for the club during the 2025-26 season.
During this period, the APL focused on ensuring the club's obligations were met and operations continued while a sales process was conducted. APL Chair Stephen Conroy stated that the board's commitment was to protect the game's interests and ensure the ongoing growth, stability, and integrity of the A-Leagues. He described the termination of the CPA and the sale process as a measure for the club's short- and long-term benefit. The club's management indicated cooperation with the APL during the transition and sale process.
Regulatory Process
The acquisition by TSG is subject to regulatory checks, including a 'Fit and Proper Persons' review by Football Australia.
A-League Women's Team
The APL will secure a new investor for the Mariners' A-League Women's team separately. APL CEO Steve Rosich stated the women's team operation was not included in the TSG deal. The APL is seeking investment for the women's team, aiming for an outcome by 31 July 2026.
Statements
Ruben Gnanalingam, majority shareholder of TSG, expressed delight at entering the A-Leagues and cited Australian football as a growth area.
Steve Rosich noted the partnership validates the international standing of the A-League and creates connections to the global football economy.
