The platform's previous all-time high for concurrent users was recorded on October 12, when more than 41 million players were logged in simultaneously. This peak was influenced by new game releases, including Battlefield 6, which launched on October 10 and achieved over 747,000 concurrent players on its debut day.
On January 11, 2026, Steam registered a new peak of 42,042,778 concurrent users, marking the highest number of simultaneous logins in its history. This data indicates continued user activity beyond major game release periods.
Year-over-year data shows consistent user growth. In January 2023, Steam first surpassed 33 million concurrent users. By March 2024, this figure had increased to 36 million, leading up to the current 42 million mark. Steam maintains a significant position in the PC gaming market, with estimated shares of approximately 75% in the United States and 74% globally for PC digital distribution.
