Bear Removal in Altadena
A bear, identified as Yellow 2120, was successfully removed from beneath an Altadena home after residing in the homeowner's crawl space for nearly two months, since Thanksgiving.
Removal Process
The homeowner reported the bear's presence on Wednesday, at which point it was affected by an electrified doormat deployed by professionals. The animal subsequently moved around the house, discovering that its previous access point had been sealed off.
Days prior, a Lake Tahoe nonprofit utilized paintballs to encourage the bear's departure. Video footage shows the 550-pound bear exiting the crawl space as paintballs were discharged nearby.
Agency Involvement
State wildlife officials had previously attempted multiple times to remove the bear, but it consistently returned. The Bear League, a nonprofit from Lake Tahoe, then intervened.
According to Dave Fleishman of The Bear League, their team's specialized experience was instrumental in the swift removal. The operation, from the time a team member entered the crawl space to the bear's exit, took less than 10 minutes.
Current Status
As of Thursday afternoon, the bear's current whereabouts remain unknown.
