Report: Deepfake Content on X Platform Raises Concerns

Reports indicate that the social media platform X, owned by Elon Musk, is being used to produce and distribute deepfake images. This content, created using artificial intelligence, has sparked significant alarm.

The images reportedly depict women and children in sexual situations without their consent.

Authorities have noted that some of this material appears to meet the legal definition of criminal child sexual exploitation material, elevating the seriousness of the issue.

Government's Stance and Financial Ties

Despite these reports, the Australian federal government continues to spend taxpayer funds on advertising through X. The platform remains a significant—and in some cases, exclusive—channel for official government communication with the public.

A spokesperson for the prime minister's office addressed one aspect of the broader problem, stating the government is "committed to restricting access to nudify tools in Australia."

However, the spokesperson did not respond to direct questions regarding the continuation of the government's financial support for X in light of the reported misuse of the platform.
