Vantrue has announced the P2 (Pilot 2) dashboard camera, which integrates a thermal imaging camera. This device is capable of detecting heat signatures to identify pedestrians, animals, objects, and potential obstacles at distances of up to 200 feet. The thermal imaging functionality is designed for use in conditions such as night driving, fog, and heavy rain, aiding in the detection of hazards.
Integrated Display and Smart Features
For monitoring the thermal camera's video feed, the Vantrue P2 kit includes a 6.25-inch high-brightness touchscreen display. This display supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, providing smart-cockpit functionalities. Additional features include a built-in Head-Up Display (HUD) and a fatigue alert system.
Multi-Camera System
The P2 incorporates a multi-camera setup:
- Thermal Camera: Dedicated for heat signature detection.
- Front-Facing Camera: Equipped with a Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 sensor, recording at 2K (1440p) resolution.
- Cabin Camera: Records at Full HD 1080p resolution, utilizing a STARVIS 2 IMX662 sensor.
- Rear-Facing Camera: Features a Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 sensor, recording at 2K (1440p) resolution.
All three conventional cameras (front, cabin, rear) include HDR technology, designed for performance in high-contrast situations. STARVIS 2 sensors are image sensors specified for surveillance use, including dash cameras.
Connectivity and Storage
The Vantrue P2 supports Wi-Fi 6 for data transfer and accommodates microSD cards up to 1TB. It also offers 24/7 smart parking monitoring, which requires a hardwire kit for activation.
