Olivia Rodrigo announced the collaboration on Instagram, describing Byrne's reworking as "insanely strong" and calling him "a legend." She also stated she "cried" upon hearing his version.
David Byrne shared his perspective on the collaboration, noting that Rodrigo invited him to interpret her first single. This cover is intended to be paired with a release of their live cover of "Burning Down The House." Byrne commented on the song's universality, stating, "I discovered that her song resonates (I changed a few words!) and is universal — we all have those feelings and have had that experience."
