A 50-year-old male officer from the Queensland Police Service’s Protective Services Group has been charged following an investigation into hate crime related offenses.
The individual faces 41 counts of using a carriage service to menace, harass, or cause offense. These charges are a result of an ongoing investigation by authorities.
He was arrested on January 5 and appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on the same day.
The Queensland Police Service has issued a statement informing the public of the charges, consistent with its policy of transparency regarding serious allegations against its members. The statement also clarifies that these allegations have not yet been substantiated.
Hate crime and serious vilification are classified as criminal matters in Queensland.
