Terry Yorath, former Leeds United and Wales international midfielder, has died at the age of 75 following a short illness.
Playing Career
Yorath began his professional career at Leeds United in 1967, where he played for nine years, making 199 appearances and scoring 11 goals. During his tenure, Leeds United secured the First Division title in 1974. He also earned runner-up medals in the FA Cup, European Cup, and Cup Winners' Cup competitions.
He represented Wales 59 times, captaining the national team in 42 of those matches. His playing career also included spells at Coventry City, Tottenham Hotspur, Vancouver Whitecaps, Bradford City, and a final appearance for Swansea City.
Managerial Career
Yorath later managed the Wales national team, guiding them during the qualification campaign for the 1994 World Cup finals. The team's qualification efforts concluded with a 2-1 defeat by Romania in their final qualifying match.
Personal Life and Additional Roles
In 1985, Yorath was serving as a player-coach for Bradford City on the day of the Valley Parade fire, an incident that resulted in 56 fatalities and 270 injuries.
He was the father of four children: Daniel, Louise, Jordan, and BBC Sport presenter Gabby Logan. In 1992, his son Daniel died at the age of 15 due to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a genetic heart condition.
His children released a statement acknowledging his public image as a football figure and describing him as a private, kind, and gentle individual. The statement also expressed comfort in the belief that he would be reunited with his son, Daniel.
