National Survey Launched to Shape Australia’s Disability Sport Action Plan

The Australian Sports Commission (ASC), in partnership with the University of Queensland (UQ), has launched a national survey to gather critical data for the development of a new Disability Sport Action Plan.

Who Can Participate

The survey is open to a wide range of voices, including:

  • Participants, volunteers, coaches, officials, and administrators
  • Carers, providers, and those not currently involved in sport
  • Individuals involved with disability sport across Australia

The deadline to complete the survey is Wednesday, 30 September. The estimated time required is 15 to 30 minutes.

Identifying Barriers and Opportunities

Organizations across Australia are working to support people with disability in sport. Identified barriers to participation include a lack of skilled workforce, limited access, low awareness, negative attitudes, high costs, and unclear pathways. The new action plan is designed to align these efforts and improve participation at all levels.

ASC Executive General Manager Richard McInnes stated that direct input from the community is necessary, and the project seeks to consolidate existing work to remove barriers.

Disability Sport Advisory Group member and Sport Inclusion Australia CEO Chantel Lewis stated that combining evidence, lived experience, and sector expertise will help identify gaps and create clearer pathways.

What Happens Next

Following the survey, the project will continue with workshops, online sessions, and one-on-one conversations with stakeholders across Australia. The results will directly guide the development of the national Disability Sport Action Plan.

Your voice matters. Complete the survey by 30 September to help shape the future of disability sport in Australia.
